Pete's Monkey
by Thomas Pratt, USA
exhibit Nr.373
Description: This is a hand carved peach seed of a monkey holding its tail.
Comments/Origin: My grandfather taught me to carve peach pits when I was a young boy. He emphasized leaving the nut seed undamaged, and this was valuable information for a twelve year old. I am now in my mid fifties, and his early lessons have led me to explore other folk art and to pay particular attention to the finer details artists may encounter. It takes me about sixteen hours to finish one carving and I give them away to special people in my life.
